Shave of the day

Status
Not open for further replies.
Merkur Progress
Semogue Boar
Proraso cream (tube is 2/3 empty woot)
Gillette White Maltese Platinum (is that right? the ones Nick sent me)

Taking a break from the feeble Flare Tip and Krona, using a decent razor an man it feels good to be home again!

Great shave, good feedback and very very nearly BBS from this combo.

I finally broke out the Slim I have been sitting on for probably a year or more.

Fantastic bit of kit. The 34C may finally have a legitimate challanger if it wasn't just a honeymoon shave. #6 for the first two passes and dialled back to #4 for an ATG. The ATG felt like I was polishing my face! Seriously one of my best ever shaves.

Gillette Slim
Perma Sharp Sooper (1)
Schmoogie 830
P.160 Morbido
Proraso Splash

  • Pureman prototype open comb
  • Spoiler, 2 shaves down.
  • P.160 Morbido
  • Vie-Long 13710
  • T&H 1805 AS Balm
  • Lolita Lemicka au Masculin

Seriously enjoyable shave, but I enjoyed it so much I missed a few spots

I'm loving this Pureman Open Comb. I don't think I want to share it with anyone else. It reminds me of the Slim in size and balance, yet much more aggressive to shave with. The handle knurling is crazy good.

The T&H 1805 is a revelation. I do have another sample of it and I think I will pass it to another member for review. Really good stuff but quite expensive, although I would suggest that it is worth it. Scent is there but very restrained, refined. Similar to Eton College/Mr Taylor.

SYD, how long have you had the Semogue 830? Is it losing its backbone..getting floppy or droopy or anything like that?

Juggy...

Had it since I started wet shaving proper more or less.

Must be 2 years or so old and used 2-3 times a week for most of that.

I would say that the brush doesn't have a lot of backbone but I honestly don't get all firm in the pants about backbone. If the brush lathers well and doesn't feel like poking my face with a broom I'm good to go.

I face lather with my Frankshave silvertip. That is a brush I would describe as no backbone at all by comparison. My vie-long from G&C has a heap of backbone so I have a range of brushes and enjoy them all.

The Semogue is a nice brush that works well. Then again I like Derby too. If it wasn't for my professed love of the 34C I'm sure Drubbing would have banned me :D

Used a 7 o'clock blue last 3 shaves (in a flare tip) and it isn't loved by me.

Decided to throw a feather in the gillette flare today, seeing if a less aggressive razor would work with this blade. Nuh, it still feels wrong. Got a decent shave but it took too much effort of the un-fun variety and touching up heaps.

On a positive note, I used the P.160 I got from Glenos (thanks!) and it makes a nice lather. It is also the strongest smelling soap I have used so far. I like marzipan, but it is funny to smell it in the bathroom.

MWF
EJ89
PSS (#3)
WH
L'O ASB

Had an acronym shave today. Pretty good two passer but I was a bit off kilter on that bottom inch of the neck.

The EJ is a fine quality razor. I'm not 100% sure if I can be bothered persisting long enough to get really good with it. Jeez I am a lazy bastage.

Shaved - wet face lathered dragged razor over lather.
Although a little bit of excitment.used one of the Gillette Platinum blades (cause my really really really cheap Spoilers arent here yet) :) (sorry RM) from Nick. Very nice it was too - set it into the spare slim at 7 and it did a thoroughly staisfactory job. Had to go in the spare slim as I want to see how long the Schick will last in the other one as the second blade during TM shaving. The little things we do to amuse ourselves.

Nice shave today:

34C
Gillette Yellow
TOBs Advocado
Alum
Witch Hazel
Moisturiser

The TOBs Advocado was the first cream/soap I have ever tried and didn't like the scent. Made me feel a bit off, weird smell. It did give a great lather though.

All in all not a bad shave.

So you did a hybrid TM using two DEs? Man, every time a new technique or method. Yesterday it was Gleno's Wet Shaving guide, the famous Wet, Lather, Shave and now, just like that, a hybrid TM. You're a genius I've decided.

Too hot here for a hot shave, so had a cold shower and shave instead.

Well as cold as the water gets anyway.

I think it was a Gillete 7 o'clock something or other, but couldn't be bothered to check. I just noticed enough to tell me that the blade probably needs replacing next shave. I guess the fact I couldn't remember which blade nor how many shaves I have had with it should have given me the hint.

I'm getting quite good at these no mirror shaves.

Returned to the embrace of the 34C today...

p.160 Doro - Cheers Nick. Works a treat...just like the morbido really.
Semogue 830
34C
Perma Sharp Super (5)
Dickies WH
Nivea Sensitive (New Age Man) ASB

Nice Shave. The PSS still feels like it could go forever at this stage - still excellent sharpness and smoothness in the 34C.

Has anybody got a 37C or 39C laying around that they don't use. Would like to give one a crack...

  • Pureman Open Comb Prototype
  • Spoiler on the 4th/5th shave - I really dunno. I use until it needs replacing
  • VieLong 13710
  • P.160 Morbido

3 days growth gone without fuss. Alum'd down afterwards.

This is the reason why I rate them so highly. Best value current production blade there is.

  • Semogue LE2011 Badger - never used before
  • Merkur Progress on 4
  • Polsilver blade
  • Camelot soap
All I can say is wow. I am quite impressed with this blade and the soap. I knew the razor would be awesome, after all that's what it does.

First time with a Polsilver and first time with the Camelot soap.

The soap is really slick and lathers well.

Blade is great and sharp, it took two days growth in its stride and left me with a smooth face.

The brush was one of two Semogue Limited Editions that a mate bought and gave me to try; I bought the boar after using it, the badger is really good, backbone and spread of the brush are good and not too large for my face.

.......... had a cold shower and shave instead...........I think..............couldn't be bothered ............couldn't remember which blade nor how many shaves..........should have given me the hint............no mirror shaves.

Eggy's gone Troppo.

Eggy's gone Troppo.

It's getting that way. The build-up really does suck.

Although for two weekends in a row now we have had a refreshing rain shower in the morning which makes it bearable for a few hours.

Still playing with blades.

Feathers are out. 7 o'clock blue not so great. Rapira not so great.

Yesterday and today I used a Voskhod, much better than the above blades. Close shave, reasonably smooth.
All shaves were with gillette flaretip and p160, loving the smell now.
