Mastro Livi Grifetto in Mother of Pearl Scales​

One more impeccable shave with my new Mastro Livi Grifetto. I absolutely love this one having elegant and stunning mother of pearl scales, it is a joy to see and to shave with. The day Mastro Livi made this Grifetto for me, he allowed me filming the making process and I am very glad to treasure this new video in my memories of the straight razors he made for me. As usual, I wanted to share this video with all the fellow wet shavers in order to let you all see, one more time, Mastro Livi at work and showing his art and craftsmanship.​

Two pass shave with a clean up. With the loan of the Standard razor and it being an aggressive one I thought I should try the Dorco blade in it to see if I get a better result. The Shaver Heaven soap provided an excellent lather for the shave and the results are better. I think that a blade that is not so sharp works better in an aggressive razor. So certain blades behave better in certain razors. I will post my results after another couple of shaves. @Mark1966 you may be onto something with the blade/razor combination scenario.

This is a sensational razor to shave with. @Robbie d did a wonderful job of crafting this Damascus steel into a near wedge western style Kamisori. The edge on the Damascus steel is almost beyond belief. I worked it through bevel setting then 3k synthetic on to Arkansas Soft and Hard hones and finished on the Chinese water stone.

The razor is so manoeuvrable and it only took a short while to have confidence in the way the razor was working.
I used a cream soap tonight and it probably wasn't slick enough for this blade. But the results are fine none the less.
The shave is an unqualified BBS. No nicks, cuts or weepers. Such a close shave that I may not shave tomorrow night - I did say may
What a privilege to hone a razor crafted by a member of our own Adelaide shave group and shave with it.

Thanks for the appreciation, and giving it a test run. After watching it clip free standing hair yesterday, i knew the whiskers (or his skin) didn't stand a chance.

Seventh shave with a straight. I am very happy with my progress using a straight. I decided on Saturday my WTG angle was too shallow so I steepened it up a little. The blade began to sing like it had not done before so I figured that was good. I've even sorted across the neck for the most part. Add a partial WTG today and cleaned up couple of clean up spots. Result was BBS except for a patch or two on my neck when going XTG. Stoked.
Brush is breaking in well, but I think I am falling in love with the Duke 2 Best. I was swapping between the two and adding a vintage brush in here and there but at heart I am a monogamist so my love falls to only one. Looking like the Duke is it.​

Wild Ride on Monday Morning...

I've been slowly working my way through the Kamisori and Straight department lately, trying to make sure every blade gets some air time. Today it was the turn of the crazy and slightly feared Kenwa Kamisori hybrid. This razor has taken "full hollow ground" about as far as it can go. The last 5-8mm of the blade before the cutting edge is literally paper thin - you can see the steel flex if you press it gently with a fingernail. All in all, a razor to be treated with deference. I lathered up the LPL, a soap I still have mixed feelings about. It produced a very serviceable lather, with an almost over the top Cedar and Patchouli fragrance. The next few minutes were an exercise in total concentration, along with some very loud acoustic feedback. I must have one of the few "singing Kamisoris" in captivity. I could have stopped after one pass, so closely did it shave, but I couldn't resist a second pass. Quite a bit easier second time - with the razor letting me know acoustically when a little extra cleaning up was called for. Finished with a BBS result, and splashed it down with the wonderful Agua Balsamica. What a brilliant finisher - soothing, cooling and with a very clean and short lived fragrance.

I'm not sure if this razor will ever become a daily driver, it's so demanding of technique and concentration, but I have said that before and been wrong.. It certainly reminded me I was alive this morning. 15 minutes after finishing, I applied a generous glug of Floid Vigoroso (menthol boosted). I got through today's shave well, and I feel great!!

OK, I went a bit over the top today with the B&M lather, it lathers up too easily - but it was definitely worth the fun. Slick and dense the way I like it. Again many thanks to @Mark1966 via @bald as for the vintage blade - it is my first. Very smooth and sharp - as others have said before. I definitely got a decent sting from them alum but also a silky smooth result. Great shave!

This razor is super mild but WOW it is super efficient! Silky glide but it was as close to BBS than you can get.
