Old Spice shaving mug (are they useful?)

Was looking at a later made Old Spice shaving mug.
Has the 'Recovery' and 'Grand Turk' ships on it (so that's mid '70 - '92 ish).
I have used a wee bowl before but maybe this mug would be better for lathering? It has nice wee ridges in the base to help whip up a lather.
Anyone used one of these mugs?
These are the smallest Old Spice mug (hold about 3.5oz soap puck).
Waste of time, or (at best) just a wee 'treasure' to have in the den?

Not meant for lathering as such. The ridges are designed to hold a puck of soap in place. Lather on top of the soap. Same idea as a MWF dish.

So it's pretty much as useful as my old coffee mug?
Except it looks so cool anyway.
Would maybe need a lid to stop soap drying out?
I tend to change my soap around every week or so.

I have had a dozen or so, they are pretty cool bits of history.
I gave most away, they are great if you use soap that size, many soaps are not this size.

For a few $$ I 'had' to get it (didn't I?).
No lid, but I have a plastic lid from a Maltexo can that fits inside tightly.
Hmmm, now which soap to bung in there?

Tip:
To repurpose an Old Spice mug into a ridged shaving mug, carefully make a few lines of baking soda in the bottom. Then add a few drops of Instant glue to each line. Presto, a ridged shaving mug!

That's an interesting approach, never heard of that one. I did "improve" one mug by adding blobs of Sugru to the bottom to make it a bit like the Rover bowl though...

Also works to fill and/or "weld" plastic - be careful as the heat generated is very high!

Baking soda and instant glue also works for repairing the slots in a banjo/guitar 'nut'.
If you don't know what a 'nut' is then you obviously don't need to know how to repair one....so in the interests of information...

Just occurred to me that I could use a 3D printer and make an insert to drop into the bottom of the mug.
Make it with some nice 'nobbly' bits, and job done?
A 'firmish' fit so it won't spin around, or a drop or two of silicon?
