so for the last 2 and a half weeks I've been going all over sydney to find a tub or Proraso green soap.....

I think I've been to every shaver shop from woywoy to crunulla and out to lithgow. been to men's biz, speciality shop, big w and every chemist I can find.

everytime nothing! everytime the story was the same. "everytime we order it in it gets sold out straight away" even the places asking $25+ per tub!

is it really that popular? is it really that good? all I know is its making me want it more.

The green is probably my least favourite of the 3, but they are all good performers

Nearly 10 years on, and still use it regularly, especially in this heat. Personally, I don't notice any difference between Proraso, and soaps costing 3-4 times as more. With fancy soaps, you're mostly paying for subjective things like packaging and scent.
 
Gifts and care did a good deal on proraso when I was looking... if u can wait.

I don't think it's anything to die for but I do like the euc / menth combo. I had a great shave with it today. Load it like you hate it!

I wouldn't bother with the pre shave creams though...

Nothing wrong with Proraso, good cheap performer especially if someone is shaving on a tight budget. A 500ml tube for around $20 that will probably out live you.
 
see i really want to try it and have it in my rotation. but its just eluding me, ive found it on ebay for $11 per tub so i think im just going to order it on there.

but i still think somone is going around sydney stock piling the green for the zombie apocalypse. somewhere in sydney is a underground shipping container chock full of boxes of them.
 
Not really, I know a shop around the corner in seven hills that stocks it, you could have just been unlucky.

Try your local barber, the old school type that have an older, more cosmopolitan clientele, not the newer school, more hipster type. The ones near me (one Greek, one Italian and one north African) always have a tub or two in the glass display under the counter.

Absolutely correct, results should be your guide.

Blanket statements and generalizations in favour of budget soaps simply evidence lack of understanding about soap composition and differing costs and the effects of different compounds in soaps. Soap formulas are not a done deal, the chemistry evolves.

Blanket statements are damaging and ignorant in that they make assertions based on dated, flawed baselines and this is compounded by lacking any direct experience of current or even premium priced soaps. Wet shaving soaps evolve and are refined constantly, budget commercial soaps face an entirely different economy of scale than artisan soaps that have considered and specialist design and composition. What was considered fantastic 10 years ago still may be good, but newer compositions and advances made in that decade afford a whole range of soaps that are unquestionably superior, but that remain untried due to reflexive dogma and a refusal to revise understanding based on new evidence and products.

absolutely and the results will speak for themselvs, but i was just surprised at how none of these brick and mortar shops seem to have it in stock. in hindsight i could of ordered it online and just waited the few days but i wanted to hold it,smell it and sus it out before making the purchase. but ive now ordered it from mens biz should get here by tomorrow afternoon

Interesting topic, soap is something that I would like to explore further at the risk of derailing the topic. However I can't comment until I achieve something similar to the stuff I see in the lather shot thread. If I can't at least get a good lather on technique I can't comment on the soap.

I know at least 3 separate stores in Perth that stock a good range of Proraso Products, plus other goodies such as Pino Silvestre and Malizia Uomo. And I must credit @Drubbing and @Greenpike for pointing me in the right direction.

Absolutely this - even my local Italian deli here in Adelaide has A good Proraso range, I think the soap is 12-13$

Don't forget that with many soaps you can't get the lather shown in the lather shots thread... even though they might get rave reviews.

It's a funny thing this social media phenomenon...Every one has now the same voice - you have to do your own research, if you believe that voice. And just because someone has beautiful pictures, makes great vidoes and/or has 100k followers, still doesn't mean he/she knows jack about great lather :D

I need to have a reference point. The lather shot is as good as any. To be honest I keep on trying to get that really thick coating I see in the hand lathering shots but I keep seeing the skin under the lather, the results have improved once I started using the merker? Man method as you suggested.

The point is, until I can get great shaves consistently I can't have a valid opinion.

It's easily got in Perth... and cheaper than everywhere else I've seen in Oz if you go to Charlie's Deli Morley. I actually think the Proraso Red is slightly better than the Green for performance but do understand that not all like that iteration of sandalwood. Try Omega too which is really similar to the Green.
