Serviceable shave. Just wasn't feeling it today I guess. I think I am going off the P.160 a bit too just at the moment.

Superlative free shaving sucks! :omg:

PS The board is DEAD. You blokes growing beards again?

Second shave in to my monthly SE stint. I always forget how close a shave you get with SE. It is however not a method I'd use on a regular daily basis as you really do need to concentrate and go slow. It's barely a safety razor IMO. Whereas you can get away with a quick morning DE shave, trying that with SE, particularly with a new blade, you're dicing with disaster. SYD, I'm surprised given your flirtation with straight shaving that you don't have decent go with SE.

Yes SYD then you could experience the wonders, delights, and marvel at that which is TM shaving (even if I do modestly say so myself). :)

SE...it just didn't do an awful lot for me. I think I had about 10 goes (2-3 blades) with it and couldn't see the point in persisting. I find the DE's better safety razors, because of that "chuckability" factor and the straights have that whole interactive thing going on.

SE you worry they are going to bite you and I don't think I was going to find a particularly better shave result from them after my tryout. Of course I only tried one model so perhaps another would work better.

Plus they look stupid :P

SE's do look stupid, but there is a definite art to them. More of an art than a DE I think.

Anyway.

I thought I had been shaving with the same blades the past month but upon checking the next one in the pack I found that I had a mix of blades. I think it must have been a PIF pack which someone mixed for me.

Imagine my snobby surprise when I find I had been using a Merkur blade for the last few shaves!! It turns out to have essentially been a blind test because I thought I was using a Malteser.

Merkur blade :(
Snifter of Floid to finish me off.

Not a bad shave, the Merkur didn't have legs after the third shave BUT I will admit I went two days between shaves, then took down a fair bit of stubble with the Merkur on it's third shave. Still wouldn't buy one a beer though...

I've been using my Featherweight for a little while, but this morning, I went for the OCMM and a fresh blade. Cella and the Duke were good as always, but the MicroMatic chopped my neck up a little. It's such an impeccably efficient cutter, but it really punishes off technique and bad angle/pressure harshly. The end result is that I have a phenomenally smooth face and half of my neck, while the other has more than a few bumps and scratches. It's my fault really, I think I scraped myself on the corner of the blade trying to j-hook like a moron. I really need to remember that my DE routine doesn't really apply to SE shaves. Despite my slightly off shave this morning, I will continue with the Featherweight. It's just as good as my super DE combo (iKon SB/Super Iridium) if not better and quite a bit quicker too. One pass WTG and touch-ups gets me there, whereas I need two for a smooth DE result.

Which Floid do you have, Jug?

Take the SE discussion to the appropriate place guys! Now to get back on topic, I haven't shaved since Wednesday so I am looking a little scruffy.

I tossed up shaving this morning and decided on the CBA side of the equation.

Maybe a nice Sunday Morning shave is on the cards.

Insanely close shave. ARKO! is always amazingly good. Instead of a once a month stint I think I'm now going to use SEs a bit more now.

  • Omega 49
  • Proraso (green)
  • Featherweight
  • GEM SS

I think this will be my 'speed shave' combo from now on. I was in a rush and wanted to scrape my face, so the easy cutting of the SE and quick latherability of Proraso made for an efficient and high quality shave. One pass and a couple of touch-ups has me reasonably smooth and somewhat presentable.

I'm playing my first game of cricket in a few years this arvo. School Old Boys, 3rd XI, should be a laugh. The esky is full, and the quality of play will be dubious at best.

I've got a bit of Vigoroso left.

First try of the arko cream that I received as a PiF. Pretty good stuff but it took quite a few rinses at the end to get a slimey kind of feel off my skin.
Lathered like a rabid dog. Washed at least two more passes out of my brush after I finished my 2.

My Frankenbrush. My first re-build. Unusual looking thing.

Tonight's shave:

  • Featherweight
  • GEM SS
  • Frank Shaving 'Finest Manchurian'
  • Mike's Natural Soap Bay Rum
  • Pinaud Bay Rum

I found myself wondering if I actually ever liked the bay rum scent, or if it was just a pleasant 'manly' and inoffensive scent. As it turns out, I'm not a huge fan and I find it a little one dimensional for my liking. Regardless, this was the first 100% BBS and irritation-free shave I've ever given myself with a single edge razor so I'm pretty happy about that. The Mike's Natural Soap provides great protection and skin conditioning, which is a great help when going for a close shave. My aversion to alcohol-based aftershaves has been remedied over the last month, as I've found Redwin Sorbolene Moisturiser to be pretty good post-shave. As such, my irritation and redness issues from the Pinaud Bay Rum have been eliminated, and I can enjoy it for the smelly and firey old-school A/S that it is.

I think I'm going to need a bigger boat to use more soap!

A seriously big feeling brush. I may need to tweak my technique, not sure my face is big enough to load enough soap for this bad boy and three passes!

Cheers to our anonymous "non-collector of brushes" :P

PS Iphone really does take the shittiest pictures.

That is a big brush. Even taking the perspective in to account compared to the razor. I think I could hide four of my brushes in that one. Nice though. Is that a re-knot or the original?

Now get some fine sandpaper and remove all that horrible butterscotch and degraded looking Simpsons sticker. It'll come up looking brand new!
