That towel rail looks like a good idea. I might try and source some brass rod and include one on my shaving stand.![]()
,,,,
As good as they look. there is no room in my bathroom for anything like that.
@silverlifter is quite right. The purpose of a shaving stand is that you do not needs to shave in your bathroom. As good as they look. there is no room in my bathroom for anything like that. Before I renovated the bathroom, there was even less room, it was almost like stepping into a broom closet.
Looks amazing Richard. It is interesting that you should post about this. Every SR shaver of (even modest) means should have a saving stand. I am currently putting a shaving stand together for myself. I do not have the gear to do this at home, so I have been building it at the local Men's Shed.
I found some old unused cedar wall cladding about 75mm x 8mm and laminated it together using exterior PVA glue to make the timber. I then turned up the legs and draw handle and started to put it all together. This is what I have so far:
I have made up the mirror frame (oval shape) and will soon start working on the mirror's support structure. In the meantime, I am looking around for a suitable ceramic bowl. If one cannot be found, I could use a stainless steel bowl. Once a bowl is sorted, I will cut a hole in the tabletop to sit the bowl in.![]()
I am not sure what I will do about a water pitcher. May have to get a local potter to make one (and possibly a matching bowl) up for me.
This is a long-term project but it is slowly coming together.
My woodworking skills were developed from building timber racing sailing skiffs in my teens and early twenties while studying to become a naval architect.
If your bathroom is anything like mine, I get about 6” square of space on the sink. Every other available acreage is taken up by the wife. The beauty of these is that they free you from the tyranny of the water closet. Shave in the lounge room, on the front porch, at your neighbour's barbie. The world is your oyster!![]()
Maybe when my old bathroom looked like this:The beauty of these is that they free you from the tyranny of the water closet. Shave in the lounge room, on the front porch, at your neighbour's barbie. The world is your oyster!![]()
Ahh, those were the days...These were originally made in the days when households often didn't have bathrooms. Shaving was often done in the bedroom. If you were sufficiently affluent, you had domestic staff to carry water for your hip bath.
I have two spare bedrooms, one contains a flightsim setup and the other is my wife's sewing room.@silverlifter is quite right. The purpose of a shaving stand is that you do not needs to shave in your bathroom.
I will have mine based in one of my two spare bedrooms. Once I get my back porch built, I will be able to shave outdoors.
