Shave of the day

You should try it. Just don't PIF it to me if you don't like it. Some love it and just think it smells "soapy". The lather is as good as Tabac or Speick. That's saying something in my book. Haven't tried Arko yet. How about I grate some Valobra and send it to you and you do the same with some Arko?

You haven't tried Arko! Mate - we have to fix that. Leave it with me.....

Was considering an all pif day, then realised I can't actually do that, so i used just a couple of pifs instead.

Vintage Gillette (from Pjotr)
Old spice mug (via Mark)
FS finest brush
Nannys citrus zinger soft soap
Speick aftershave.
Astra Blade

Wasn't as shy with the amount of the shaving soap as I have been previously and it showed in the shaving today. This one had a very nice aroma. Would happily use this again.
Was a little worried after my first swipe with the razor that I wouldn't like it at all, but a slight adjustment in angle gave a good shave. Just two passes for now, but I think my technique must be improving as it is feeling much smoother than just a few weeks back with 3 passes + touch ups. I just need to learn when enough is enough.

Two is more than enough. Gotta leave a bit for the blade to bite in to the next day.

Vulfix no-name boar brush. I think I bought the last one ever made from Superiorshave. It's gotta lotta grunt. Not sctritchy but an enormous amount of backbone. Wicked el cheapo boar. Can't beat it.

Tabac cream.

Streamline-GEM PTFE on No 2.

Cella
Smoggie 830
Merkur 34C
Permasharp Super #5 - still has a shave or two left in it. Amazing!
Dickenson's Witch Hazel
Proraso Splash

The Proraso is just awesome in the heat :amuse:

I think I have close to 20 soap samples to try at the moment, so which one did I go for today?

Thats right, the proraso cream. Came back after exercising this evening, and just wanted a shave I knew should work.

And work it did. I think I have been a bit soap shy in the few problem shaves I have had recently but with the proraso I have determined how much works well for me.

Pif'd Gillette
FS finest
Astra
Proraso
Speick A/S

Thanks for confirming Pjotr. I thought it was a flair tip, but didn't want to look (more) stupid by claiming it was something it wasn't.

I'm only on my 2nd shave with it so far - I'm only an every other day shaver. It feels different to the EJ - I'm not sure if it enforces a different shaving angle? I couldn't say which I prefer yet but for the price it's pretty good so far.

It is NOT a flair tip but a flare tip!!!!!!!!

Haha, my one honest typo and it sends someone off.

Glad to see there are other pedants around.

Talking of which, the Finnish word for pedant, pilkunussija, when translated literally into English is comma f*cker.

Now poor ol' egg..bert has crawled back in his shell. Don't worry eggbert, you get that with the purist razor dudes. Happens with SEs even more given that nobody really seems to know what half of them were really called in the firt place. Heavy Flat Top (?) for the commonly referred to G-bar or the Flying Wing (??) for a much nicer sounding Bullet tip.

Based on the asumption your other razor's a three piece, the angle of attack will be different due to the different head sizes.

It is, and the one I used shaved my whiskers with flare, just to show I know the correct meanings.

And hoping that two wrongs make a right.

Nice, like your work

He's an accountant.

Yeah - and I'm functionally illiterate but can count - so what! :amazed:

Brand new shiny SE blade in The ClogPruf.
Brand new shiny Feather in the Slim (dialed back to 5 mind you)
Cella (I have nearly 500 grams of the stuff gotta make a dent in it sooner or later).
Use a brush I didn't even know I had - a Black handled brush - Pure Bristle made in Italy - not as soft as the rest of mine but stirred up the Cella more than adequately.
End result - very very good - one tiny nick from the SE on the top lip and no problems with the Feather at all.
My gut feel is that the Slim is an excellent razor whatever you put in it and especially after a first pass with an SE you feel all powerful and nothing can hurt you.

Vulfix no name boar brush

MWF stick

Streamline with GEM PTFE on No 3

Two day growth. Always results in a great shave. No aftershave treatment other than the alum block and a bit of tea tree oil cream.

New blade today - went with the Tesco Value Gin.jpg, err, I mean Lord Platinum
lord-platinum-razor-blades.jpg

Went back to the Nanny's pile and used the ice and a slice, which reminded me of
Capture.jpg

Gillette Flare
FS brush
and Speick A/S - I really should look at getting some other A/S

I am really struggling to work out how much hard or soft soap to use - always seeming to underestimate for fear of waste. The ice & slice i have is a pretty soft soap, so it looks like it is getting pushed all around the jar, and I think I am loading up more than I am. Practice, practice, practice I guess.

Derby #2
Dickinson WH
l'oreal ASB

Derby is still good. Shaves roughish but results in smooth. Really puzzles me but it just works.

The l'oreal balm is really growing on me as a balm after a shave at night. It is maybe a bit greasy for a morning shave but after a nights sleep it has really done a great job on the skin. If you shave at night you should give it a try.
