Bought my 'birthday present to myself' - pulled the trigger on a Vostok 420640. Total comes to USD$70.77 shipped, but it was basically $80 once Paypal did their thing. Here's the picture:
I was looking at the 420268 and still want it, although I wanted a slightly more 'classic Vostok' looking dial as my first example.
Also thinking that this new release looks rather dressy yet understated while keeping the diver style case. Again, you can have it for $80 to your door. Smashing value for a reasonably classy looking watch.
Imitation being the highest form of flattery @Monsta_AU I have just received my very own 420640. Once I worked out how to open the strap and the bizzare unscrewing of the crown to set it all is good. Thanks for the heads up on them RM.

Yes, it is all a bit weird. Make sure you find the ENGLISH instructions. Not sure about you but my Cyrillic is a bit rusty.
The strap is well out of adjustment for me, so I will be getting a band de-pinner and other tools.
I noticed that an eBay seller of them has a pack of 5 leather straps for them, made for the Komandirskie range. They do fit the Amphibia perfectly as they are the same lug width. Cost is ~$30 Yank dollars delivered. Might be worth getting a pack of them.
I have purchased a selection of 5 Nato's from here mainly because they are cheap as chips but the quality of them might be utter crap. And I also grabbed this one which I think will be useful too. Not expensive at all - about $28 delivered for the lot.

Quick question to you RM and anyone else who has one of these. What is the purpose of the ring of red and black dots on the watch. You can turn them around, but I dont see any function does anyone else?

No, these will do 200m depth just fine.
The issue is that the bezel is free-spinning, whereas most of them only turn one way and have a ratchet system. Mine is quite loose to turn it, something like a Seiko Monster is much firmer.

I recently bought one of those inexpensive "car cams" saw the ones that captured the photos of the meteorite in Russia and thought they were a good idea.
Any way the point of all this is that when it arrived...the instruction were not only languages unknown to me, They were all in Alphabets Totally Unknown to me!!!

Movement today in watches. The above band came in and I have fitted it......
Also, spotted a bargain on eBay, and I am now own my first Citizen - and not one of these horrible 'Eco-Drive' solar powered quartz abominations either..... it's a NOS Vintage unit!!!

Only a few dollars spent there, add a $10-$15 band and it's a great little watch for less than an Amphibian. Got to be happy with that!

Does anyone have a set of watch tools? If so, I'd love to hear a little about what specific tools are generally required to do basic things like change straps and remove links from bracelets. Am I pretty safe just buying a cheap and nasty kit off eBay?

Nah, I just want to be able to change bands and add or remove links to a bracelet. I picked up a pretty plain Seiko 5 for cheap about a month ago as a daily wear, but I'm eyeing off an Orient Mako and I want to put it on a black suede band.
That Sea-Gull is pretty nice. I'd be tempted, but I struggle to get my head around gold features. Little bit gaudy for my taste. How's the Amphibian going? One criticism of the Seiko 5 is that it doesn't really hold enough charge to keep ticking much longer than 12-14 hours, so if I take it off after work, it often needs to be set again in the morning. Little bit disappointed by that, I was hoping that it would manage the overnight period well enough to keep ticking during the week. Does the Amphibian keep up in this regard?

Okay, with the news that the SARB065 has now been discontinued by Seiko, I am in a quandary as I definitely want one of the current model and not the one that appears to replace it (SARY075) has an fugly 'PRESAGE, AUTOMATIC" branding on it instead of the rather nice 'Automatic, 23 Jewels' that the 065 has. Looks like I will be sorting one out soon from Seiya or LongIslandWatch before stock runs out.
@eggbert this may be you last chance to get one, time to pull the CC out and use it. The SARX013/015/017 all on the chopping block also....

I do like the styling of the Cocktail Time, but I don't really trust the 50m water resistance, and am more than likely to jump in the pool while wearing it.
