Shave of the day 2013

I sat down and went through the creams. Out of the five dr Harris samples, the two I've tried are quite hard/dry. I just opened the other three and they are very creamy and what I was expecting. I suspect the first two may have dried up and I managed to pick them first :) This is an example of the luck that I can attract. I'm now looking forward to the next shave, third times the charm ;)

You could try adding a couple of drops of water to the top of the dry creams and then just leaving it to see if it rehydrates and softens. Works with soaps, maybe it'll get these going too.

I'm trying a Derby for the first time since starting with this stuff, and I've had two great shaves with it. One of them was even with a Slim. Maybe I was quick to judge, but the real test will be putting it in the iKon for an aggressive shave. Omega #45 and Arko! puck is becoming a favoured combo too, now that the scent has mellowed out a bit

Lynchy is right about the stuff you having being better quality, no doubt.

But what was meant by the "supermarket cream" remark was that for $4 or so you can get a cheap tube of cream to waste and not have to care about it, in order to get your lathering technique right.

Apologies, I must of missed that bit.

Yes 100% go buy some Palmolive and practice lathering until your hearts content :)

Well third times the charm. Much better lather today, more of what i expected it to be. Had a good shave aswell, still using the Astra blade. I might try the other razor with a different blade next time :)

Hey Dreddy I know this is going to sound super boring but my best advice is to stick with one single combo until you have techniques sorted out.

Have to agree with Juggie's boring advice. Although I don't necessarily agree that a different razor/blade combo in inexperienced hands is going to make that much difference, why change anything until your technique is good enough be able to actually determine that. Trying different stuff is off course fun but it's a bit of a waste of time until you can appreciate it. We only say that because we've all done it. Generally to our detriment.

Yeah, as much as I think your NEED to buy every razor imaginable that can wait till later ....

Don't you think he should buy them now though so that he
A) has them available to use when he is ready
B) doesn't get caught out by the vintage razor shavopalypse
C) can appreciate them from afar.

Oh and did we mention Marks for sale thread just down the page? Vintage razors likely never to be seen again of a quality unsurpassed, hand forged on the inner thighs of virgins who were sacrificed at the altar of Shavos upon completion. The ghosts of the thousands of blades already used further enhance the sharpness and smoothness of even the most lowly merkur blade and the experience of all the previous owners guides your own hands through the shaving motions such that it feels like you have your own personal barber shaving you.

not really

Just to make it clear. I wasn't going to buy a new Razor or blades. JugV2 was kind enough to PIF me 2 x Razors and many blades, i was just going to try the other razor with a different blade :) As per advice, I will stick with what i have at the moment :)

Mowed down 4! Days growth this morning before work!

TM Method with:

Gem Jr
34C
Spoiler
Arko
TGN brush
Alum

Man the spoiler is just too good. It literally just glides without any issues!

Made for a super smooth shave :)

Shave 7 and 8 with the spoiler and it is running out of puff.

Good blade but I think the schick pips it for me so far.

I'm placing the spoiler as the opposite side of the PSS smooth/sharp combination at this point.

I tend to agree. Get a coupla more shaves out of a Shick and it's just a tad smoother.

Not sure what you mean. The Spoiler is rough/blunt! Can somebody send in the shaving police/CIA/FBI mob please.
