Shave of the day 2013

I was inspired by someone here to take La Toja out for a spin after having not used it for a while. As it is one of, if not my favourite soap I decided to go all out and use all my top shelf ingredients.
La Toja,
Brand new Spoiler Blade
Eclipse Red Ring
FS Badger of some form or other

Not one of the best shaves I have had.

I must admit I was slightly worse for wear (birthday today) which is part of the reason I thought to spoil myself, which is why I think I didn't notice I had two blades, not one.

I wondered why the shave was as bad as it was, but it took me until the 2nd pass before I thought to check. The shave ended up fairly close but the alcohol splash of Speick AS was a bit of a shock to the face.

Put the spare Spoiler in the Fatboy Exec so you probably won't here from me here for two months (or until my Aqua Velva arrives) as 2 spoilers equates to close to 2 months of shaving.

Ouch! A shame the birthday treat bit you on the bum face mate!

Uneventful, which sounds pretty good in comparison!

Could be on to soemthing here Eggy. Perahps if you attach some kind of lubricating strip before the blades, maybe a little seperator between them, don't use such sharp blades and I think you might be onto a winner. A bit of decent marketing and who knows where this could go - 3, 4 maybe even 5 blades all in a single razor. You would only be limited by your imagination (I mean I could think of putting a little vibrating motor in with the five blades but who would fall for that kind of nonsense?)

That does sound ouchy!

Those old blades do tend to stick together!

I'm using the Schicks in my Fatboy on 8 with a range of other products and my rotation of seven vintage butterscotch brushes.

Living the dream guys living the dream!

....... I had two blades, not one. ......

Been there done that. Actually took another blade out and again had two blades. Thought I'd finally found a dud dispenser of Shicks. The coating is obviously getting a bit gluggy with age. Haven't found a solution yet but with four blades out and ready to use it'll be four months before I have to tackle that issue. I'm thinking a quick blast in the oven.

I had a shave. I used water soap a brush and a razor.
It was nice.

A shame you didn't use any commas. They probably all got pinched in your neck of the woods! :P

Contemplating pulling one of my straights out over the weekend...hmmmm

I was a little worried they might get confused by the little squiggly things a think they were some kind of mathematical symbol. :)

Glad to hear in not the only one who has made this error!

I literally feel your pain :)

I'm in Grafton NSW travelling for work at the moment. Oh look - how convenient in the hotel bathroom -

Hmm, will it replace my usual travel kit

Lets have a closer look

Ummm, sorry not sure I want to put this stuff on my face

It feels really slimy and viscous - probably works OK but what is in it? I don't want to imagine.

So C&E Nomad, my Muhle synthetic travel brush and the old Sensor Excel for me!

There's just something very wrong with those pictures. For some reason I also had you down as a right hander. Just goes to show that you should never post bathroom pictures!

Anyhow back on topic.

Boar brush.....a Vulfix which was discontinued several years ago.
My shaving stick leftover soap mix.
PSS in one and Gillette nacet in the other bakelite razor.

PSS is good. Got five shaves out of it. I was told by SYD that I had previously given it an average rating but I think I was just trying to wind him up. That was a mistake. Not only is this an excellent blade but SYD, in stark contrast to his name, is not small. The Nacet was OK.

So not a MUM blade then? I'm in shock.

This morning's shave consisted of:
  • Pureman long-handled Open Comb (Prototype)
  • Fresh NOS Gillette Bleue Extra (aka GBE)
  • VieLong Horsey
  • 'Da Fat, facelathered

Really love the Pureman/GBE combo. Does the job I assure you. Was even contemplating just leaving it as a WTG pass today but kicked n and went my semi-XTG also.

Smoooooooth.

EDIT: Mark, that looks like a 'brushless' cream, looks a bit oily to me. Usually they have a large amount of coconut oil in them, or they are silicone-based. I'd go the C&E over that also!

Why are you shaving in your suit? Or is there another man in the bathroom with you?

Is it a trick and all three containers ahve the same goop in them?

Did pure man get off the ground? I have a foggy memory that some sort of beta test pass around was to occur...

I AM right handed. Taking picture of my LEFT hand with my RIGHT hand :weird:

It was very oily - felt disgusting!

I took the first shot when I arrived the previous evening thinking I would just post that.

Then when I was about to shave I thought maybe I should take one for the team and try it - then I thought better of it!

Now you mention it the soap (clear), lotion (pink) and cream (white) although different colours did feel kinda the same - that lovely chemical feel to them ...

The second round got off, which I got 3 of the razors from. They were not able to go into production with them.

I got an open comb, a closed comb and a TTO. I haven't used the TTO yet, the Closed Comb was unbalanced in the handle, but the Open Comb is a work of art.

That is a shame RM

Ingrams
FS silber
34C
His Royal Schlickness
Proraso splash

Menthol madness on a beautiful Sunday morning.

Great shave but note to self. Attempting to discipline 3yo with razor next to mouth is a bad ideA. Nice chunk out of the top lip for my trouble.

Omega #49 and Cella. Wonderful combo. I like Cella for mostly the same reasons that I like Proraso red. Nice scent, easy and thick lather that does all the things I need. Plus, it makes my bathroom smell like biscotti. I put half of a slick Schick into my shavette for this shave, and I had a ball. A bit of irritation around the neck, but I'm getting better with my straight-style technique. The one thing stopping me from hunting down some cheap straight razor gear is that I'm much less confident using a straight in my left hand compared to the right. The shavette was lots of fun for a weekend shave though.

Finished off with a Krona and a Personna red. Such a great razor. Easy and comfortable shave every damn time.

Does MensBiz still have a forum discount code? I tried the old B&B one before and got knocked back.

A new Voskhod,
The long progress,
Mikes pine and cedarwood soap using the Smog 610
Thayers WH
Osage rub.
Felt pretty damn good afterwoods
