Brush: My "new" vintage butterscotch Simpson 5
Soap/Cream: Mike's Natural Soaps Hungarian Lavender Shaving Soap
Razor: Eclipse Red Ring
Blade: vintage Wilk - day ???? (last one!)
After-shave: Irisch Moos Balsam (after giving PJ my stick of soap I forgot I had this bottle so I'd better use it!)
Cologne: None
I've done a couple of test lathers with this brush and wasn't impressed - today's 'live' effort has not changed my thinking
Mike's is so easy to use but I just could not get a decent lather. The end of a long run with the blade didn't help. Ended up going for the IM balsam to heal the 'wounds'.
Tomorrow is another day!

I too have been shaving. Went to NZ for a week to see agng Mother (the old bag is in better nick than me). Anyway took across the Slim with the English Wilkinson in it, alittle travel brush (vi PJ I thing) and a stick of Erasmic. These have now been my staple for the last 4 to 5 shaves. Erasmic possibly not the best lathering soap I have used but the Wilkinson goes on and on and on and on (well you get the idea) This morning was shave 6 or 7 on this blade and it does not give any indication of giving up yet.

Not really, I just don't find "backbone" particularly useful in the lather making process.
You paint back and forth and it wants to flick soap everywhere, you run circles and it takes an hour to build lather and cover the area. You use more pressure to speed the process and it is less comfortable than it need be.
Simmo 10 overcomes this limitation via prodigious size, smoggie splays nice and the frankshave...well that thing can barely stand up under it's own weight yet it builds lather fast and effortlessly.
I'll leave these plenty'o'backbone brushes to those who get off on horsehair shirts and self flaggelation
What brush is that you are talking about mate? I've got a Semogue 1800 that is fairly stiff but it blooms as soon as I plant it on the face. Do you bowl or face lather? I love this brush. It's a bit hungry for water but so far so good, I've only had it about a week.
The cream is good, not too heavy on the scent, good lather - not great but good.
This blade is a stalwart element of my routine; I am putting it up there with Voskhods for reliability.

Up early to get daughter2 to the airport as she is going overseas with a school missions trip. Two daughters, both on different continents and in countries I've never been too (daughter1 is in Germany for 6 months) - shaving is put into perspective!

Used the new little butterscotch Made Rite, which took lots of work being so small. Nice though.
Perma Sharp on day 7 and it was good but I could feel that it is on its end time.
Speick soap and alum and Speick AS.
I have been trying GFT sandalwood pre shave and putting a tiny bit on between each pass (when I remember) and it seems to smooth things even further.
Yeah a bit of fiddling about but it was just an experiment.
Hardly any alum burn at all and no irritation.
Perma Sharp on day 7 and it was good but I could feel that it is on its end time.
Speick soap and alum and Speick AS.

Aftershave: Baxter's of California Aftershave balm
My preparation was as usual, shower, leave face wet & lather.
This setup mowed the whiskers down!
Three passes to BBS, I think I only needed two, I did three, as it's what I usually do.
I didn't need buffing anywhere!
The Ikon with the Feather blade was like Atilla the Hun compared to family planning the way it reduced the whiskers!
I could feel the blade doing it's job the whole shave, with no burn or irritation!
Tomorrow, I'll try a Voskhod blade to see how it feels in the Ikon.

I love my iKON SB. It just mows down anything in the firing line. I'd be a little scared going with the Feather though, you could take a lip off with that.
Schick Krona w/ Perma-Sharp, Duke 2 with Mike's Natural Lime. It's starting to suck a little bit wearing a suit and shaving my face most days, it's fucked up my whole shaving ritual because I'm always in a rush. The Schick is becoming my daily razor because it makes it safe and easy to whip around my face and get a passable shave, and the Duke and Mike's combo is always good.
Winter is almost here in Melbourne, so I'm contemplating adding a scented balm to my collection. Maybe the sandalwood Skin Food.
