Can't see how tardo, at least according to the urban dictionary defintion, can have any bearing on your hair growth patterns. But as you're obviously a Foofy (Foo Fighters Fan, just run with it), I'll forgive you anything.

Can't say my second shave with the Gillette Plat was particularly successful. Still pretty close but serious razorburn and just not very nice at all. Will persist to see if this was an obscure one off disaster due to some other as yet unknown factor.
 
I used two razors today; Progress and R41.
Shark blade
Proraso cream
T&H Badger
TOBS Jermyn AS

A great shave and I love the proraso green on the skin.

As usual the Badger is a joy to lather with and gives plenty of thick yoghurty goodness.

NOT BBs but good enough for a monday.

Haha, just go with it :D I mean it's all messed up, along the bottom of the neck it grows sideways to the right and really flat in against the skin, and then the bottom 10mm or so is a mixture of this sideways thing, and upwards. Meaning no matter what I do I manage to irritate half of it half the time.

Sucks to hear about the Plat and the razor burn, they're a bit of an odd blade I find.
 
I sort of got that but after reading the revolting urban dictionary definition I thought it needed airing. Yeah, basically anything below the jawline is generally a problem with most people. I don't do anything ATG in that area. The Plat is a bit weird. First shave was awesome and second one like an old Feather. It's initially at least sort of put paid to my often stated notion that all blades are much of a muchness, but we'll see in the long run. Can't judge a blade on a couple of shaves.

How did you manage to get through your La Toja sticks so quickly? Mine look barely touched.

I actually quite like the word. Could be in general use before we know it.

Sounds like you need an open comb on the neck. Obliquely growing hair is much better served by an open comb.
 
Gave the Iridium's a 3rd run. A very decent blade. Probably still good for another one, but swapped it out for a Spoiler tomorrow. Would stock a few SI's if they were still around and easy to get.

Well I only have one and used it almost exclusively for three months. There's a bit still left but I've found it's definately one of the top soaps around and running out would be unacceptable. Should have got a stash to start with but that's always OK in hindsight.

Pretty good shave. Decided my previous probs were an outlier/anomoly. Good blade I think. A bit better than the ol' Shark but nothing mindblowing I have to say. On to the Astra next. Have tried them before as it's possible to actually buy them at one or two barbers around town.
 
La Toya and Spolier.

I shoulda known better than to try a 40 yo blade. Binned after the first pass. Too rough. Finished with a Red, but the damage was already done.

I made absolute rubbish lather. Ordinary shave. My blob of Godrej fell off the brush and I didn't replace it. The palmolive cream just ain't that good by itself.

The Nivea ASB is good stuff though. Made the best of a bad situation.

Every time I make a crook lather (fortunately pretty rare these days) it reinforces my opinion that good lather is the most important part of successful wet shaving.

Are you restocking on La Toja sticks PJ? I might buy into that action as I missed out last time around...

Creams are a bit messy I think. Jug has kindly offered to give me one of his spare sticks. So, I will be set for a while. However if another group buy from G&C is in the offing I'll gladly put my name down for another stick of La Toja and, as I've noticed they also stock Speick, a stick or two of that too. Hard to beat either of those in my opinion. By the way I'll gladly grate a bit for you so at least you'll know what you're missing out on or decide you can't stand the stuff.

I might have a spare stick. Got a couple and only use as my travel stick - will last a l-o-n-g time at current rate!
 
I did a bit of a shoot-out between two GEMS tonight. After trialing the Featherweight last time, I went for the Micromatic tonight. I left a cheek to do with the Featherweight to refresh my memory too. I'd proclaim the Micromatic the winner, it felt a bit more aggressive but I found it delivered a smoothness and glide that wasn't present with the Featherweight. I switched the blade from the Micro to the Feather half way through, and it immediately felt a bit more harsh and rough on my skin. I did cut myself for the first time in a couple of months with the Featherweight, but I'm going to put that down to inexperience with the angle while working around my throat. I'm really enjoying my SE experience, but one of these is eventually going to go up with some blades as a PIF. I still think the 34C is the king of the castle, but one of these definitely deserves to stay in the rotation for the occasional Thomas Method shave for special occasions.

Other kit I used tonight:
  • Merkur 34C w/ Astra SP for touchups
  • Blobby Foo
  • TOBS Avocado
  • Lucky Tiger AS
  • Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm

I'm starting to see why the Astra DE blades are a staple, I'm finding them pretty comfortable while adding a little pressure during touch ups.
