Sterilizing a shaving brush

While shaving today, my brush slipped from my hand and fell into the toilet bowl...i sprayed it liberally with disinfectant but im not sure if thats enough. Any ideas on how to sterilize it further?
 
Heh. It wasnt an expensive brush, but it would be annoying as i would need to wait about two weeks for a new brush to arrive...
 
Was the toilet pre-used? If not, no foul, clean up carry on. I've 3 kids and have to fish out toilet roll holders, lego, tins of cat food, and dolls clothes on a regular basis.

If it was full, then I wouldn't have put my hand in there in the first place.
 
Sprayed it with disinfectant, washed it, put it on a shelf. Not planning to use it for food...

Should i be soaking this stuff in bleach or something?

As @Drubbing said - if the bowl was clean you are fine. If the bowl wasn't clean (floaties or skid marks) throw it out. However if you use it and your shaving cream turns brown, or your face smell like a public toilet and your not using ARKO!!!!! then throw it out.

IMHO it's a personal choice whether to use it again or simply start again. Being natural bristles it would have soaked up some skanky water.

If you were to clean it then I'd use hot (not boiling) water and vinegar solution (5:1). Pump/swirl it no more than 5 mins. The. Rinse thoroughly. This time use a squirt of detergent (washing up) in hot water. Pump/swirl it again for 5 mins. Rinse thoroughly. Then repeat vinegar/hot water solution again (2-5 mins).

Simply vinegar and water ought to kill anything funky. Bleach will kill your brush. Never use harsh chemicals on your brushes.

If you're worried about it just give your brush a shampoo. As germs can't live on clean glass surfaces, provided it's flushed and kept clean, the ceramic surface of a toilet bowl is the most germ free hygienic surface in the house and by extension the water will not be skanky. Your brush is soaped up every time you use it and nothing's else is gonna live in there. If you shave with an R41 and it's regularly saturated with blood then maybe not.

Do not worry about it!

You have more likelihood of getting crook from kissing your missus than this brush harming you.

Give it a rinse in hot water and soldier on.

Nothing worthwhile is gained without pain or sacrifice.
 
Please refer to @JugV2 if you develop an skin lesions. Yeah and give the missus a wash before kissing too!
 
Thanks guys, i dunked it in hot water + dishwashing liquid and that seems to be okay. I did discover that the black plastic portion has expanded though, so the base keeps falling out. I guess i need to get a new brush anyway...

Now imagine for a minute that with some oversight and misjudgement that you are quietly and innocently wiping your arse and suddenly your finger breaks through the paper and meets that area that you are trying to avoid with absorbent paper barriers.

What do you do? Not cut off that offending digit and dispose of it in some toxic waste dump (unless you are a YKW sort of guy) I am sure. Wash that dirty finger.

Now a brush falling into a clean....ish bowl. Use it and give it a wash to allay any fears. Fear by the way is worse for our health than dirt.

But then again it could be a great excuse to get rid of the brush and buy a new one.
 
A bit of glue or silicon perhaps?

I would but then I don't really throw much away and stick to the old adage that "it might come in handy one day".

I have proven this old adage true in that if I chuck something, sure enough a week later I regret it in a big way.

Why is it that you can have something for 10 years and not need it but throw it out and you need it the day after the garbage truck has been?

But try moving house with all that potentially future possibility stuff.

Keep it, I say.
