I have to agree. The FJ40 I learnt in was a non synchronous box so it took some getting used to. My uncle taught me to drive his Scania at 16 which was a steep learning curve. That taught me more than any car would.I'm not sure how much anyone really learns when they start driving a car, especially anything post-1980. You really start to pick up more when you learn to drive a truck. My first truck was a 20-tonne '70s Kenworth with an 11-speed Road Ranger crash gearbox...
I still love my manuals but my current Jeep has a ZF 8 speed auto and it is so much easier to control on sand than my previous 6 speed manual Wrangler.
