Shave of the day 2013

As promised the saga does continue. Put the Personna blade into the Slim - Yucky poos. I am afraid this blade has to go down as a bit of crud. Even the greatest razor ever produced, the Slim, could not save this blade. In the bin with it and another visit to the stash is needed.

Yeah, the problem there is the Slim. It's sucking all the mojo out of one of the greatest blades ever produced. You need a 34C.

Well, i've had my first DE shave :) I used the twist to open shaver given to me by JugV2 with the astra blade. For the cream i used the dj harris sampler 'almond' type. My first lather was a bit of a disaster, as i was shaving is started drying and flaking off. I stopped and tried again, this time i think i may have overdone the water as i could still see my skin under the lather, if that makes sense (but there was no air bubbles).

Practice. You don't need to shave to do that, and it'll make subsequent shaves easier. More cream is better, it needs more water (added as you go), but then you're unlikely to drown it. Worse case is you make too much and you clean the sink with it. Makes wives happy... apparently.

As far as cream volume is concerned it's a dollop the size of a walnut (I think that's the general expression). Nothing wrong with starting off with too much cream, it's just that by the time it's the right consistency (aim for yoghurt) you end up with it dripping down to your elbows.

If it pleases m'lord I believe my learned colleague was referring to the "almond"

Shelled or unshelled PJ? Unshelled he'll be floating!

I recommend as below.

As the guys say though err on the side of using too much rather than to little Dreddy. I also prefer with creams to try and put it down inside the bristles a bit. It's inside the brush where the cream or soap gets a good beating not just right on the tips.

Lathering is really the key to wet-shaving IMO. Excellent lather can make up for a multitude of hardware and technique deficiencies. Bad lather is hard to overcome with the best hardware and technique.

Expect several "aha!" type moments as you learn your way around your brush :)

Oh Yeah...

Well done on the first shave mate! Went the second pass on the lower neck? You have balls that is probably one of the hardest to get smooth areas for me!

mmmm, the toothpaste looks about the size of an shelled peanut :P

In time you will work out the right amount to use but for now just use whatever you feel comfortable with. Soaps are good to work with because you can face lather or bowl lather until you get the loading of the brush right. You want your brush wet though. Have to stress that.

Good rule of thumb - If the lather runs down your arm and drops off your elbow into the sink - your probably using a touch too much water.
If the lather is removing your whiskers along with a certain amount of skin then it may be a tad dry.

Work out a happy medium between these two and you too can pontificate on the difference between walnuts and almonds. :)

Arko...it's been a few weeks.. freaking awesome stuff! Face latherers delight.

Spoiler has finally smoothed out significantly yet it is still really sharp.

Good shave all round.

Like... "Aha! Maybe I should use a different brush to lather with" ?

Now, unless your goatee was Ho Chi Minh style of three hairs growing out of a mole you will have much more face territory to swirl your 34C ARKO!batically across the skin.
