Shave of the day 2013

Irisch Moos Shaving Cream 100ml Sir | Bik & Bik drogisterij

Not sure about the stick but the cream is good, I think I gave a tube to someone in a PIF.

New week new blade.

R41
Gillette Yellow
La Toja cream
Smoggie Boar

I cut myself on the bottom of my neck, but other than that it was a rather uneventful shave. Pedestrian at best. The blade isn't suited for the razor. It's better in a TTO or Progress IMO.

Damn, I just ordered some from Shaverhut. As usual, it would have been nearly half the price from anywhere outside of Australia. Menzbiz don't seem to stock it anymore and Connaughts haven't had stock for months which makes me suspect that it'll be withdrawn from production too. Fear of Shavepocolypse strikes again. I used to live in Leiden where Bik & Bik are based. Old man Bik was already a third generation chemist. Obviously his sons, Bik1 and Bik2 have taken over. Blast from the past.

It was good, nice weather. I can't believe the property market up there, I don't know how people can afford to buy on their own.
Mitchell St is the same as ever. I stayed mostly out in Woodroffe and Virginia. Took a drive through Karama where i used to live and it's pretty different now.
I enjoyed it, Mrs JugV2 didn't mind it but the heat was a bit much for her I think.

The property market is completely nuts. We were just getting ready to buy a place at the end of last year, and the NT Gov changed the stamp duty rules overnight - so that we had to save another $30,000 to pay for that. And there has been no sign of the prices dropping either.

I know someone who paid $650,000 for a house with no windows, and it then took him another year to get that sorted because it wasn't a standard fit and no builders could be bothered to do the job! They had too much easy work to do elsewhere.

Don't know about you guys in the far North but down this way we call that a box with a lid. Now if that's what is selling up your way we could go into business - I can supply plenty of boxes with lids (even really long ones from the local undertakers - you line up the people with (lets be nice here) 400000.00 in their pocket and we could both retire in a few months (and I thought the NT news headlines were made up - they really are a little strange up there. :)

eggy kindly sent me some of his vintage blades. Just used a Personna Stainless. Very sharp and very smooth. Looks like a winner to me.

It looks like the Irisch Moos cream, like the soap, is no more. Bought a couple from Shaverhut and they've got one left. All other suppliers as far as I can determine are out of stock. Bik and Bik have some but then I discovered that their advertised postage is for delivery in Holland. They want 30 euro to post to Australia. See ya later. I'm not that desperate for stuff I haven't used yet. If it's anything like the scent of the soap I'll be really happy.....for a while at least. I'm sure as with the Tabac cream it won't be that economical to use.

I think I got around 8 shaves out of the one I tried, but to tell the truth I kind of lost count

You use too much of it?

I decided to give my slim and 34C a birthday over the weekend. Ultrasonic bath and a toothbrush scrub. They both came up a treat and I got to see how shiny they are again :) I also swapped the blades between them

Ingrams menthol
Semogue 830
Merkuuuur 34C
Gillette Spoiler (6 or 7 I think)
Alum
ASB

Hmm...I think the spoiler goes slightly better in the 34C than the slim. A nice close shave. The Ingrams is very pleasant to use. Good times.

It's starting to warm up again here in Darwin, so I am reverting back to cold water shower shaves, and as I was doing that I thought to change up the kit I was using to:

Fatboy Exec
Cheapo boar brush
Proraso
Vintage Punktal blade
$T2eC16Z,!)UE9s3wDbIuBR(YHnG16g~~60_12.JPG

Not sure if it was the vintage blade, or changing so many variables at once, but it wasn't the best shave. I will try it again with hot water, but I think I will revert back to a tried and trusted blade for my next shave.

P.160 morbido
Semogue 830
Merkuuuur 34C
Gillette Spoiler (8 or 9 I think)
Alum
ASB

new speed record today for a 2 passer to get decent for work.

No alum sting, nice combo this!

More like a shave of the month report:

Wee Scot and various others
Irisch Moos cream/Speick and a few others
Bakelite Boy 1 and Bakelite Boy 2 (same razors but loaded with different blades)
Just loaded a PSS in BB1 after an excellent ten shave spell with a Shicksa and just finished a five shave spell with a Personna Stainless in BB2. Very nice blade, remained very sharp to the end but got a little bit rough. Could have really pushed a few more out of it. Will be loading BB2 with a Laser Ultra which according to hunnymonster is a candidate for worst blade in the world. We'll see!

While it may not the WBW contender that Hunnys Laser Ultra is, I am not overwhelmed with how good the Punktal blade is that I sent you.

Well after using the Thomas Method for ages with my EJ89 and a vintage Schick I switched to a Fatboy on 8 with a vintage Schick.

Sensational shave!

Variety of soaps/creams and aftershaves - almost Summer now and time for the Proarso again!

It's amazing how good the Fatboy & Slim really are. Years ahead of their time.

Myself, the combo has been this for the last few shaves:

  • Fresh NOS GBE (now 2 shaves down)
  • Fatboy on 7
  • Vie-Long Horsey
  • 'da Fat, facelathered

All I can say is when you get 'da Fat right, bloody amazing shave.

Absolutely!

I can't see the current era of zamac razors lasting as long or being so advanced. Some of the stainless ones maybe but these really are as good as it gets IMHO

Fatboy @8 compared to a mild EJ89 - no wonder it felt closer!

Although they're not adjustables but mere TTOs, I'd give that moniker to the GEM Micromatic range. Not to mention a comparison of finish and plating. Although I hardly ever use it, being a proud, uncultured phillistine bakelite boy, I do love my Gillette super adjustable. Amazing engineering but it's a bit of a gimmick really. Personally I can't see the need for adjustability. I guess for new DE shavers it might be useful in that they can determine what it's like to shave with an aggressive setting. I'm not even that sure how that translates to razor aggressiveness as there are so many more factors other than just blade gap that determine that.

but but but...toys, gadgety...fiddling with stuff!

I am trying to bring on the spring weather here

Ingrams Menthol
Semogue 830
Slim (6,6,4) yay for mid-shave adjustment!
Gillette Super Iridium (IIRC) at about shave 6
Alum
ASB

Nice shave but my hair...OMG I need a haircut. I look like a frickin' mop.
