Shave of the day

Mark what do you think of the EJ cream listed on your post? I used it for a few weeks then PIF'd it..I just didn't find it worth keeping.

I actually really like the EJ Sea Buckthorn cream. The scent I enjoy and it works really well IMHO. I picked it up with the Pens over YKW along with some T&H Grafton cologne.

Of course NOTHING comes close to the soft Italian soaps, like Cella, especially when you use them in the manner I recommend :D (just noticed my account has been hacked AGAIN!)

Do we have a cold water cult starting here? Next thing you and Mark are going to extolling the virtues of mid winter swims off the South coast of Tasmania.

Glen (hot water for shaving - cold water for drinking)

No cold water cult in this house - I live in Canberra. The 'dark ages' have started at least in the morning for me - warm water rocks in that situation.

Oh goody if three of you like it I have something new to try - next shave is a cold water rinse job. Not quite brave enought to go the whole hog and do a full cold water shave (actually sounds potentially painful).

On a hot day there really is nothing much better than a cold water shave with something menthol like Proraso - very refreshing!

Today, however, was a dark ages morning for me....

Fatboy on 7
Warm water
Semogue 1305
Proraso Soap (I can see the bottom!)
Proraso splash

Lots of hot water.

Vulfix no name boar

Valobra - 'cause the flea pit motel smell goes with a no name boar. Wicked lather as usual.

7 'O Clock bakelite with and Astra on No 4. Not too bad for a No 4 shave. Generally don't take a DE blade this far and I won't take it any further.

Just a cold water rinse (as this seems to be the must do procedure at the moment) and a bit of tea tree oil.

Whereas I went cold, well as cold as Darwin water gets in the middle of summer. After a hot cycle home the last thing I needed was hot water.

EJ DE89
FS Finest
Back to Proraso
Astra blade
Alum block
Finished off with a nice, cooling Hendricks Gin and Tonic

Went well, but the alum block stung a bit more than usual.
Got to look at getting an aftershave or two once my self imposed purchasing embargo is lifted.

On a sidenote I saw a Joop aftershave balm at an Op shop this weekend. I opened it up and had a quick sniff. Wow! That stuff was strong. It went straight back on the shelf.

Fatboy on 7 with Lab blue
Replacement Milk Churn (still being broken in)
Cella - 'nuf said, this is the best ever
Lucky Tiger balm

Finished off a little latter with Musgo Real No1 Orange Amber cologne

Permasharp Super
34C
MWF
830 (Ridiculously nice handle! )
L'Oreal ASB

Been a bit a crook and had furred up with a weeks growth, I'm no cave man but there was a bit of weed whacking to be done. 34C handled it with aplomb. 2 passes and a little chin touch up for a very nice shave. A break often seems to give up a great shave for me. I do think about having an open comb in the stable for the times the whiskers get a bit longer than normal.

Been a while since I used the 'fat. My skin is so soft today!

I also after few days growth get good shaves. Maybe it's something to do with the whiskers possibly being at a different angle more perpendicular to your face or something.

In any case today's equipment manifest:

MWF stick
Little travel brush with TGN grade A Finest.
7 O Clock bakelite with a Dorco. What's wrong with Dorco? Nothing as far as I could tell.

Speick cream - using it up as I'm happy with the soap, but they work the same. Just shows, there's more to a good lather than tallow.
THE CHUB
Gillette New w Personna.

Not a great result. Patchy, irritable, and some bits wouldn't shift. I blame the NEW, as the Personnas love my HD. I really am a 1 razor dude. That why I've so many muthafkin brushes.

Sorry Mark, I don't think I can love this one, but for the price, that's ok. It's maybe technique, but I'm too old, grumpy and impatient to start over.

Besides, as Keef Richards says when asked which was his favourite guitar - *shrug* "Give me 5 minutes and I'l make em all sound the same..."

......or, regarding different razors you could adopt the Pete Townsend philosophy and, "just play the fuckin' things..."

You're a worry Drubbing.....

I've tried too Mark. More brushes, soaps, blades, aftershaves you can poke a stick at but only one razor. A bit like the character Lennard in the Big Bang Theory.

I'll buy the NEW if you want to off load it. Pablo keeps bugging me to try one.

You don't need to buy it mate, after all these bespoke brushes for cost - it's yours. You'll have to clean/sterilise it though...

Does that smell like the aftershave? I found someone that had the aftershave, and it didn't smell unpleasant, so may buy a combo if they are similar.

Very similar, but liek a lot of AS the scent doesn't and isn't supposed to linger. Aside from that the AS works brilliantly, very soothing.

Well I must say that I'm dissappointed by those who indicate that they only need one razor :weird:

I mean, how can you try different blade/razor combos unless you have lots of different razors and blades???????

Mind you I suppose that my 'rotation' is a select few of the ones I have.....

Provided you are using Cella, or another Italian soft soap, with the appropriate technique I suppose you will still get a good shave though!

There is of course only one appropriate technique and that requires 2 razors!! :)

Ever since the Thomas method went global he's been unbearable. I blame you Mark.

So do I - I have been led from the path of righteousness and humility and am still struggling to find my way back. :)
