Shave of the day 2013

After the Feather I thought it see if my advice to others still held for me!
My faithful ~5$ Parker clone
One half of a Feather DE
And 3x passes.
As I hadn't used the clone in awhile I was more careful than usual. Very close shave. The Feather DE as I had experienced before was just to ~ sharp.
Again I would have to recommend the Derby 1/2 blades.

Frankenbrush
Tabac cream
Featherweight with GEM on No2

No problemmo. The GEM blade is pretty much unbeatable on a second shave. The first shave as always is scary. I'll now plonk it in my trusted Bullet tip for the remaining thre or four. Liking the alternating SE/DE shave routine. Keeps you on your toes. Definitely light, airy, aromatic cream time here in WA. l

Had to think back to what blade I have in my razor at the moment.

Shark on its fourth shave.
Proraso Green soap
R41 of course.
Semogue brush.
Jermyn St AS.

Nothing flash, the earth didn't tremble and Mt Druitt is still there.
Just a reasonable shave for a reasonable day.

I've forgotten how long I've had this PSS going.

Fuck me, they're good.

He likes the Permies!

Kowalski, get me another batch.

Aristocrat #16
TOBS Sandalwood
Simpson Colonel xl2
Derby

A bit of an odd combo. I've decided to try and use up any of the open packs of 5/10 blades that I have, and Derby was next. I've never been a huge fan, but I get acceptable results with it in the #16.

That said, the #16 is that good I could probably put a piece of broken glass in there and get acceptable results

You have convinced me - might get a #16 out and give it a run!

I'm in the same boat, hence using a Shark blade at the moment.

I've stuck with the same combo the last ten days and it seems to give a functional shave.

R41 - as I use this more and with a wider range of blades, I learn to NOT cut myself so much...still not putting a feather in it.
Proraso! original soap
Shark
Semogue brush

Maybe I need more brushes, the other two are badgers...T&H I bought from Drubbstep has lost its backbone and is a big floppy paster. the Semogue LE Badger is amazing but also large and best used for creams.

Finished with Floid to put a spring in my step.

Hard to go wrong with a #16 :)

I admire your persistence with the Shark. I don't have much luck with them myself.

I understand what you mean about learning with your R41. I had a similar thing when I got my first Red Tip SS, and then again when I started using my NEW.

It's BOAR time. I can suggest any number of items from the Omega range... (still owe SYD one, I'm getting round to it)

The T&H is a luxury mop, it was too soft for me from the start - big badgers are like that.

I'm in Catania (Sicily), and I finally experienced trying to lather a soap with hard water. Fuuuuck. Now I get how lucky I am to live in Melbourne. I took a small slice of Mike's, and even after a few minutes of work, I had a barely usable lather. Shameful.

Despite that, my new favorite razor rolled my beard with ease and left me irritation free. I think I'm going to get the Damaskeene replated eventually.

...............I think I'm going to get the Damaskeene replated eventually.

It really has found a good home!

By the way, instead of re-plating you could hang out on ebay and try and nab a schmicko one (or on one of the other shaving websites). They don't come up that often and tend to go for more than your average GEM 1912 but it might be a more economical option.

This one looks identical to yours and looks pretty good with a nice old case too. A bit expensive hence the lack of any bids.

You should. They're a wee bit rare as far as 1912s go. I got one because I was told they're a bit milder and more forgiving than the standard 1912. I didn't notice a difference which is why it ended up with Mong. He loves it, my drawer now has some more space so it's a win win. I've still got a 1912 which I might drag out because it's frustrating me that I can't get the hang of them. Strange, given that it was my first SE, I raved about it and ended up with lots of other SEs. In fact never really touched a DE in anger until I, for a laugh, tried the 7OClock Bakelite.

Anthow, coupla shaves here.

Horsey travel brush
Tabac cream
Bakelite razor with Gillette Swede on No 2
Bullet tip with GEM on No 3

Hard to pick which combo is better but might have to give it to the SE set up. The horsey brush seems to be getting better with each use. Barely any scritchyness and a nice backbone.
