Shave of the day

  • MNS Pine & Cedarwood
  • Gillette Slim (@5 WTG, @3 ATG/XTG)
  • Gillette Yellow (#2 usage)
  • Bestshave #6 'Donkey' special

Very nice shave, I didn't order the Pine/Cedar but am warming to the scent - the Yellow is very nice but does leave one KNOWING how sharp it is after use (lil prickliness).

P.160 Morbido
Schemug 830
Merkur 34C
Perma Sharp Super (6)
L'Oreal ASB

Had to do a super fast two passer to get underway. Gave myself a couple of little weepers that closed by themselves during the shave. An overly ambitious swoop on the adams apple was the cause. Rushing always reminds me that these things are sharp.

PSS still has legs for another shave but I have a Derby itch that needs scratching :) 6 shaves ~ $0.035/shave for the blade. It's not bad IMO.

  • Semogue Badger LE2011
  • Camelot Soap
  • Polsilver blade - fourth shave
  • Merkur progress

Really digging the Polsilver blade. It probably has legs for another couple shaves.

Agreed. First shave with one this morning and it is what I expected the SI to be. Definitely closer-shaving, definitely sharper. Great glide.

  • Slim, set to 7
  • Polsilver, 1st shave
  • Proraso Green
  • Smoggie 730HD

Quick 2-passer, no nicks, no fuss. Sharp blade, and s-m-o-o-t-h! Not as close as some but no prickly feeling at all. Me likey-likey.

Well, first use of the H1:

- Titan H1
- Astra Super Platinum
- Omega 10777 (a real cheapie)
- TOBS Eton
- Prosaro alum in a tube
- Thayers Witch Hazel (rose petal actually!)

Expectations of the H1 were pretty high as it's had good write-ups elsewhere. It's meant to be aggressive and a solid unit. I can vouch for the weight straight up! Mr Google can provide the actual weight but I know it's the heaviest razor I've got. Nearly on par with the whipper snipper!

So here we go; 2 days growth and I have thick hair too. For me an Astra is a good goto blade: reliable, consistent, not too sharp and good $ value. In the H1 though the Astra was a veritable Samurai sword, bordering on being too sharp. It felt sharp on the face, but maybe more use will change this.
The H1 has been quoted as 'singing' as it works and I can confirm that the acoustics are strangely loud. You can nearly hear the 'snick' of each and every hair being cut.
I'm usually a 3 pass guy, but amazingly I could have finished after a solitary pass and been acceptable. So I did two passes: WTG, XTG. Old habits die hard!
I often get a nick or two around my mouth and across some mild acne scarring and today was consistent. 4 nicks with two weepers: the alum fixed them up after a cold water rinse.

Given this was the first use of the H1 I'll add a longer review when I've had a few more goes. Initial impression is good though although my tennis elbow may play up given the extra heft!

So have we got a new, must have blade? Did I miss the memo on that? Where can I get 1000 of them?

It's a good blade. Not the best I have ever tried but certainly top ten.

I only have two packs of ten and I'm certainly in no rush to go buy some.

I've got three or four hundred blades now. I don't need any more, regardless of the rarity of them.

So, they're MUM (much uvva muchness)? You shouldn't have mentioned that you've got 400 blades. I've barely got 200. I feel left out.

Gillette 7o'clock black (indian) is a good blade for me. Used with both my gillette razors and p160. I know it's supposed to be the same blade as the 7oc blue (russian) but it is so much better to me. Closer shaves and less irritation. 2 shaves on it so far.

Second go with the Polly. Opened the Slim up to 9 as it's not as sharp as I am used to. Proraso Green was a little too wet. Good shave though.

First go with a Fatboy tonight, set on 4 with a Pol SI. Blobby Foo and Proraso red. Little bit irritated but a comfortable shave nonetheless, it was the SI's 5th shave and it started to lose it's edge so I binned it half way through. Replaced it with a Polsilver stainless and finished off pretty well. Good first impression of the Fatboy, I'm looking forward to trying it set to something a bit more aggressive.

I've been off work crook with flu the past week.

So I put my bad shave down to this.

I hadn't shaved in three days so I had a bit of stubble to clear out.

  • R41
  • Polsilver
  • Camelot soap
  • Smog LE2011 Badger
I don't know what it was; I cut myself up stupidly. Six cuts and none of them minor. Fair dinkum, I looked like I had on a blood collar.
I wasn't feeling well, I was a bit weak and shaky, I think I rushed to get it over with. Plus I am still shaving my chin which I am new to as I have worn a goattee for years.
Apart from the cuts the blade was really good in the R41 - I think an aggressive razor suits the Polsilver. So where I wasn't bleeding, I had near BBS results.

I'm going to try a new blade on the morrow and take it slow and see how it goes.

Had a decent shave today:

  • P160
  • 34C
  • Gillette 7o'clock Yellow
  • TGN brush
  • Alum & Witchhazel

All in all a pretty decent result.

I have some minor sunburn from yesterday's 'cubby house building' fiasco! So my checks are feeling a little tender.

Gonna go put some brut on to scare away any ladies I might encounter throughout my day;)

Merkur 38C
Feather
Arko Stick
Ve Long horse hair brush
Speick After Shave Balm

The Feather is a good match for the 38C (which despite its size/heft isn't really that agressive).

A couple of shaves down with:
34C
Derby
P.160 Morbido
Smoggie 830
Proraso Splash

Sometimes I think I'm just shitstirring being disagreeable touting Derby here and there. Then I pop one in again and experience that bizarre Derby effect of ordinary feeling shave with smooth and effective result. It confounds the mind really.

Howz the Foo?

The Foo is mad dog! It's been a good contender for all the creams I've thrown at it so far, and it's stayed slightly scritchy which is good for me. It holds a good amount of water so lathering with creams has been really easy, it's really made me understand how bad my lather used to be. It was great with P160 (morbido) tonight, made a nice slick lather which helped as I was trying a Tech for the first time. I tried my first ever Shark SS too, and it gave me a pretty comfortable shave.

Does anyone think I'm a half decent chance of picking up any shaving gear cheap in the duty free at Singapore airport or in a chemist if I go into the city? Aside from Gillette Thins from Vietnam, is there anything to keep my eye out for when I'm there? I'll only be in Singapore for a couple of hours, but enough time to have a bit of a shop around.

I reckon you'd struggle at the airport duty free to get anything but overpriced moisturiser & the usual western fragrances.

From what I've read there is a famous place in Singapore called Mustafas - this is apparently a place that sells loads of stuff but its also known as THE place in SIN to get shaving gear. I dunno if you'll have time to get to see it but I've read repeated reports that they have a fair bit of stuff and it's very, very cheap.

That said I'd expect not a lot of high end stuff - ya know there won't be Merkurs or EJ razors etc but you'll almost certainly be able to get a lot of hard to find stuff dirt cheap!
